Volkswagen came up with a car for athletes. It without a driver’s seat

Volkswagen presented at the IT Fair CEBIT in Hanover a new drone Cedric Active. The conceptual minivan is created with an eye on fans of productive leisure and sportsmen.

Sedric Active is a further development of last year’s Sedric concept presented at the Geneva Motor Show. Even outwardly, these cars are almost not different – this is an electric car almost cubic in shape with a spacious cabin for four seats, where a pair of armchairs and a sofa are set face to face. The driver’s seat is not provided in principle: Sedric is a fully automatic vehicle, where riders only need to enter the destination. On the roof you can clearly see the “fungi”, in which the lidars for the autopilot system are installed.

Sedric Active is designed in the vein spirit for surfers: on the roof there is a fastening for the board and sails, and the seats are decorated with practical fabrics of yellow and turquoise colors.

The presentation of the concept car was made by the IT director of the Volkswagen concern Martin Hofmann. He said that the company is undergoing major changes – both internal IT systems and client services are being modernized: all of them will be transferred to cloud services. One of the central areas is artificial intelligence.

Now in the Munich laboratory there are about eighty specialists in artificial intelligence, machine learning and natural language processing. They already created about a hundred applications for cars, customer services and internal services.

One more area is quantum computation: this kind of research is done in VW laboratories in Munich and San Francisco. The main areas of search are the optimization of traffic and the simulation of alloys of metals and other materials.

Sedric drones in the future should become the main vehicle in the automatic taxi service: the machine can be called from anywhere at any time with the help of a mobile application. This year, Sedric has already tried on the role of a school bus.
