There were first details about the SUV Range Rover next generation.
In the near future, competition in the segment of large SUVs and crossovers will intensify – Mercedes-Benz is working on a new GLS, while Audi and BMW are planning to release new flagship models Q9 and X7, respectively. For all these cars, the key markets are the US, China, the Middle East, so that the new Range Rover will compete with whom.
According to preliminary information, the new Range Rover with the L460 index will get a look, the differences from its predecessor will be evolutionary, but not revolutionary in nature, as the image of the current model is recognized as successful. To invent a new image for the designers of the British brand will not have to, however, the car will increase in size. It is expected that the length of the SUV will exceed 5 meters, and the width – 2 meters.
The technical filling of the future Range will be perfect new, informs Autocar. The SUV will be built on the aluminum platform Modular Longitudinal Architecture (dual-link front and multi-link rear suspension), instead of the current D7u architecture, in the standard and long-bodied version. The new platform will be adapted to electrified power plants. It is assumed that the family will have full hybrids, soft hybrids with a 48-volt electrical system and an electric car.
About the latter it is reported that the electric Range Rover will be a separate model with excellent looks and more modest off-road capabilities, but with an autopilot. The output of the electric model is scheduled for 2022nd – one year after the standard model.
The composition of the power scale will be updated and it will include exclusively Ingenium engines, including new inline six-cylinder engine, while the British will refuse from the large V8 engines – a 4.4-liter diesel and a 5.0-liter gasoline.
The current version is quite popular on the international market. In Europe and America, the car was sold in the amount of more than 30 500 thousand. However, soon it will have to compete with future models of Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q9, and BMW X8.
