The Japanese brand introduced a restyling truck. This is only the second update for the current generation model, which has been released since 2011.
Refreshed pickup Mazda BT-50 debuted in Australia. As reported in the local division of the company, the model was updated “exclusively” for the Green Continent. And although the restyling has turned out to be rather modest, Mazda claims that the work on the updated truck was conducted for 18 months. It should be noted that this is the second modernization for a pick-up truck of the current generation – the current BT-50 is produced since 2011 (this is the “twin” of the Ford Ranger), and the first update was made in 2015.
“Japanese” received a grille in the style of crossovers CX-8 and CX-9, a new front bumper. Actually, these are all the external differences between the restyling model and the pre-reform model. The interior has not changed at all, only a new multimedia system has appeared in the cabin, which is “friendly” with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. By the way, BT-50 became the second Mazda with the support of these services – the first was the updated Mazda6 (the US version). In the cargo compartment of the pickup there was a 12-volt socket and a tailgate lock.
In Australia, the model is available with a single-row, three-quarter or double cabin, customers can also buy BT-50 in the form of a chassis (again with three different cab). Motors earlier: four turbo five-cylinder turbocharged 2.2 or 3.2 diesel engine capacity of 150 and 200 hp respectively. Both engines are combined with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The pickup with motor 2.2 drive – rear or hard-wired full, model with engine 3.2 is only available in 4×4 version. In other countries, the BT-50 can still be bought with a derated up to 125 hp diesel engine 2.2 and petrol 4-cylinder engine 2.5 (166 hp), which is completed with 5MKP.
The price of the cheapest updated truck (chassis with a cab) starts at a mark of 28 990 Australian dollars, which in terms of our money is about 1,374,000 rubles at the current rate. Mazda BT-50 with double cab will cost at least 35 990 local dollars
In Australia, sales of the refreshed model will start in May, while it is not known whether such a pickup will reach other countries.
As previously reported, the BT-50 of the new generation will not have anything to do with the Ford Ranger: the Mazda model will be built on the basis of the next Isuzu D-Max. Both new “Japanese” are expected to debut in a year or two. It is expected that the BT-50 will differ from D-Max only externally.
