The Japanese manufacturer intends to focus on gasoline and electrified power plants.
One of the steps of this initiative was the cessation of production of the crossover Toyota RAV4, equipped with a diesel two-liter engine 2WW. The manufacturer said that there are still stocks of cars.
The production of complete sets with a 2-liter gasoline engine 3ZR-FAE, as well as a hybrid power unit including a 2.5-liter petrol engine 2AR-FXE, is continuing.
Note, we are talking about RAV4 of the fourth generation, the production cycle of which is coming to an end. Recently, at the New York Motor Show, the Japanese company introduced a fifth-generation crossover designed for the North American market. The fifth RAV4 is built on the platform Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). The cross has slightly increased in size and, presumably, will receive the upgraded engines of the predecessor.
In the line of the Japanese brand there are no light and compact diesel models. The engine for heavy fuel is still equipped with the Verso minivan, the Proace Verso minivan and the Proace van, the Land Cruiser SUV and the Hilux pickup.
Note that despite the soon-to-be-announced generation change, Toyota RAV4’s sales capacity is increasing every year. In 2015, 51,838 vehicles were sold, in 2016, 69,919 units already, whereas in 2017 71,047 cars acquired their owners. For comparison, last year Hyundai Tucson sold 152 103 pieces, Mazda CX-5 – 59 499 pieces and Volkswagen Tiguan – 236 323 cars.
