The Volkswagen I.D. R supercar will receive the number “94”

In two weeks there will be a sports match on the mountain Pikes Peak, within which participants will have to overcome 20 km of the route, and climb to a height of 4,300 above sea level. VW expects to set a new absolute record on the electric car I.D. R.

Volkswagen ID R is a new all-electric supercar from the German brand. At the moment, the car exists in a single copy and was built specifically for participation in the status competitions Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. And now, two weeks before the start of the competition, the company decided to demonstrate a “combat” paint for its car.

First of all, it should be noted that the American standards assume for each participant its number, and the Volkswagen team immediately took the number “94”. Thus, the car will receive the classic color of the company’s sports cars (the main gray color of the body), as well as its own number on the sides.

“As it happens in the American motor sport, the organizers allowed us to choose our own number. 94 was our clear priority, as it symbolizes the letters “I” and “D” – the ninth and fourth letters in the alphabet, “explains Volkswagen Motorsport director Sven Smates.

As the power unit on the sports car Volkswagen ID R will be used fully electric power plant. The total power of the car is 680 horsepower, and the dynamic characteristics exceed the Formula 1 cars.

At the wheel of the sports car will be a three-time champion of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb – Romain Dumas. At the moment the car is still undergoing test races for detailed adjustment of the transmission, steering system, and suspension. In addition, there is a careful selection of tires that will allow the car to provide better handling on a winding mountain road, and also do not interfere with the dynamics of the car.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen’s top manager reported on the forced shutdown of some models due to the introduction of a new environmental testing standard for cars – WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure).
