The brands of Opel and Vauxhall have already firmly joined the French concern PSA, and the companies will produce the same models, but calculated for different markets. Already now the brand has been rebuilt on platforms from PSA, as well as with the unification of all the details.
The French concern PSA is actively developing in the European and American market, and is not afraid to buy new brands, and invest in them a lot of money. So, the two brands of Opel and Vauxhall already closely integrate into the concern, with the transfer of all models to a common denominator using their own technologies. So, the new version of Opel/Vauxhall Astra will be presented already in 2021.
Judging by the new information, the new version will be built on the basis of the modern EMP2 platform, which is the basis for many models of the French concern, including the new Grandland X SUV.
This will allow the model to expand the engine line, which will include gasoline engines with a power of 110 to 220 horsepower, and turbo-diesel units with a capacity of 99 to 177 horsepower. In addition, the seventh generation Opel Astra will also receive a hybrid modification.
Recall that the press service of the PSA officially announced that all new models, starting in 2019, will receive one or another electrified version. And the EMP2 platform is just designed for operation with hybrid power plants. According to preliminary information, the hybrid will be able to develop up to 200 horsepower.
Of course, the Astra 2022 model year will become more dynamic, but the details of the non-existent model are unknown. The design will also become more sporty, and some elements will be borrowed from the new Grandland X, but the length will remain within 4 350 mm.
It is also worth noting that before the release of the new, already seventh, generation of Opel Astra, a restyling version will be introduced. Test prototypes of the model of 2019 already came across photoplips, and judging by the camouflage on the front and rear, the update will concern the design of the front and rear optics, bumpers and grille.
Restyling Astra, most likely, will be presented before the end of this year in the framework of a special event, but the Paris Motor Show will be held without Opel.
Meanwhile, the German brand Opel and the British company Vauxhall held a solemn demonstration of the new compact cross GT X Experimental with fully electric power plant. The concept is designed to show the development of design.
