The launch of the flagship SUV of the German brand is expected in 2019.
It is assumed that the second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLS will be somewhat longer than its predecessor. Judging by the fresh video with the test prototype, which managed to catch on the way to the Nurburgring and during the races on the track, the crossover is not yet ready for the premiere in the near future. A completely new full-size SUV will probably be introduced next year.
Technical information on the future novelty is completely absent, we can only safely say that, after changing the generation, GLS will move to a new platform and lose its “extra” weight, as well as increase in size and get a more spacious interior.
No doubt, there will be a charged version of the GLS 63 with a radiator grille of Panamericana and, most likely, a new engine. If the current GLS AMG under the hood is a V8 M157 with a volume of 5.5 liters with a capacity of 557 hp, the new one, presumably, will receive a four-liter biturbo engine M178.
Perhaps you can get an idea of the new Mercedes-Benz GLS at the end of this month. The German manufacturer plans to present in the framework of the Beijing Motor Show an ultra-sonic concept under the subbrand Maybach. It is not ruled out that it is built on the basis of GLS of a new generation.
Judging by the sales volume of the model, which in the last few years only fell, the company needs to hurry up with a change of generation. So, for example, if 12 600 Mercedes-Benz GLS units were sold in the European market in 2015, then 7 803 units were sold in 2016, and only 5 116 crossovers last year. In the United States, these figures are even lower – 6,152, 4,156 and 1,839 units, respectively.
