Company Mazda has presented the updated roadster MX-5. The model received modernized engines, an improved set of security systems and small changes in design.
The Japanese improved the 1.5 and 2.0-liter engines, improving the combustion process, torque characteristics, response to the pressure pedal and environmental performance.
In the top version, the power increased from 160 to 184 horsepower, and the maximum torque – from 200 to 205 Nm (at 4000 rpm). The “red zone” of the two-liter unit has moved from 6800 to 7500 revolutions per minute.
At the same time, this unit now uses lighter pistons and connecting rods (each 27 and 41 grams, respectively), a new high-pressure fuel injection system, and upgraded intake channels. The angle of opening of the valves, the height of their lifting and the internal diameter of the exhaust manifold increased. In addition, the MX-5 2.0 now uses a two-mass flywheel, and on machines with an automatic transmission the gear ratio of the main gear is changed.
In addition, the roadster changed the door stoppers, cup holders, door opening mechanism and seat position adjustment knobs, increased the steering column adjustment range, added a soft brown roof and black 17-inch wheels to the options list.
Among the security systems appeared the function of recognizing road signs and automatic braking at urban speeds in the event of an accident.
Updated Mazda MX-5 in the US and Europe will go on sale closer to the fall.
