The Korean brand is preparing for the premiere an inexpensive compact hatchback. The novelty is intended for the Indian market.
At the end of June this year Hyundai launched in India a campaign dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the presence of the brand in this country. Within its framework, several video clips with memorable events will be released, the owners of Hyundai cars can share their stories, plus customers will be given discounts on the service. And the action will end with the premiere of a new model – a compact hatchback. As reported by IndianAutosBlog referring to the representative of Hyundai, the novelty will debut at the end of October 2018. The publication also distributed fresh photos from the tests of hatch.
Tests of small hatch in India began last year. At the moment the machine is known under the factory AH2 index. It is not excluded that the name Santro will be revived for the novelty: a hatch with this name entered the Indian market just twenty years ago (in other countries – Atos), he was the first model to enter the conveyor of the local Hyundai plant. Indian Santro replaced the generation in 2003, its release ceased in 2014.
According to preliminary data, the new hatchback is built on the upgraded version of the platform from the Hyundai i10 first generation. In the line of engines can enter the gas four-cylinder atmospherics engine Epsilon 1.1 – this engine was equipped with the same Santro, in the model he gave out 64 hp. It is expected that AH2 will be offered with a five-speed manual and a robotic transmission (Santro had a manual and a four-speed automatic transmission).
The production of a new hatch will also be established in India, it is likely to supplant the Eon compact from the local Hyundai line. One of the main competitors of the novelty will be Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Tata Tiago. Outside the Indian market AH2, most likely, will not get out.
