Let’s remind, public premiere Chevrolet Silverado of new generation has taken place within the limits of the Detroit motor show. Then the manufacturer stated that six powerplants will be part of the power scale of the model, but in January only three information was disclosed: a pair of V8 petrol engines with a volume of 5.3 and 6.2 liters, as well as a diesel turbo-diesel Duramax with a volume of 3, 0 liters.

Now General Motors reveals the entire range of power, and the company prepared a surprise – as a base motor, the new Silverado received a gasoline four-cylinder engine. A large pickup truck is equipped with this engine for the first time.

The manufacturer claims that it is a completely new commercial engine built from scratch. To increase the impact of the 2.7-liter unit at low revs, it was made long-stroke – the stroke of the piston is 102 mm, with a cylinder diameter of 92.25 mm. The cylinder block and the head, into which the exhaust manifold is integrated, are made of aluminum alloy, and a two-channel supercharger with a blowing pressure of 20 MPa is also installed. The list of engine technologies includes: direct fuel injection, phase shifters, electric pump, start-stop system and cylinder deactivation system at partial load.

The previous generation model had a base motor of 4.3 liters, which is heavier than the new four for 170 kg. The engine output of 2.7 liters is 314 hp. and 473 Nm (for traction + 4,3%). The manufacturer claims that this engine can accelerate the pickup to a speed of 96 km / h in less than 7 seconds and outperforms competitors in the face of the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500, equipped with V6 engines 3.3-3.6 liters in towing capacity.

Details were also disclosed on V8 engines with a volume of 5.3 and 6.2 liters with a cylinder deactivation system. Each of these motors has 17 schemes of operation of the cylinders. The electronics “monitor” the operation of the pedal and the load, taking into account these data, can, with a frequency of 80 times per second, stop and resume the supply of oil to each of the 16 hydraulic valve tappets. GM claims that the 5.3 V8 engine with this system works in partial load mode by 9% more than with the Active Fuel Management system, which can disable only half of the cylinders – an average of 60%.

The claimed output of the manufacturer is 360 hp. and 519 Nm at the motor in volume of 5,3 liters, whereas top in volume of 6,2 liters gives out 426 hp. and 621 Nm. The smaller V8 and four-cylinder motors work with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the most voluminous with a ten-speed. In addition, in the power range still available V6 engines 4.3 and V8 5.3 with the system of deactivation of the half of the cylinders.
