Currently, the leadership of the French Bugatti is seriously considering the possibility of creating a new model, as well as a hybrid powertrain. However, the appearance of this car, which will be a crossover or sedan (which is unlikely) in the model range of the Bugatti, equipped with a hybrid engine, directly depends on the decision of the leadership of the Volkswagen Group.
Last month, Bugatti CEO, Stefan Winkelmann, told us that the brand wants to expand its model line. However, adding a new model to a prestigious brand from France takes time. According to Mr. Winckelmann, the management of the German automobile concern Volkswagen Group, which includes the Bugatti company, is now willing to invest money in the development of electric vehicles and the creation / development of autonomous control systems for cars.
“Bugatti should come up with a rather convincing argument for our shareholders,” said Stefan Winkelmann at the international auto show, which is currently taking place in Paris (France).
“Our brand is ready to develop. We need a new model – it is quite possible that this will be a crossover, or maybe a sedan, ”added Winkelmann. He also noted about the possibility of creating a hybrid power unit: “Today, the W-16 engine is at the heart of the brand, but someday we will have to develop a receiver for it.”
I must say that rumors about a new model of the French brand began to appear several years ago. We want to note that recently there has been a decline in consumer demand for sedans – motorists around the world are beginning to pay more attention to crossovers and SUVs. Apparently this trend was understood in the Bugatti leadership – Stefan Winkelmann also noted that most likely the crossover will become the new model of the brand. In this case, the novelty will be a direct competitor to similar models from premium automakers Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
Now for the rumors about the emergence of a hybrid power unit Bugatti. Of course, the current W-16 engine can be called an engineering miracle without exaggeration. But nevertheless, recently automobile engines have changed quite a lot – now many are creating hybrid engines. Now more and more “tough” environmental standards are being created, under which classical internal combustion engines are almost not suitable.
