Premium brand DS, part of PSA Peugeot Citroen, intends to introduce a new flagship model. The novelty will enter the market exactly 65 years after the appearance of the original Citroen DS – in 2020.
Auto Express reports this with reference to its own sources.
According to preliminary information, the model will be called DS 8 and will compete with the BMW 5-Series and Audi A6. The design of the future flagship has already been agreed with the company’s management, and according to vice president of product Eric Apod, the car “looks amazing”.
Probably some stylistic solutions for the novelty will be borrowed from the crossover DS 7 Crossback, as well as the concept car of Citroen Numero 9. From the last DS 8, the form factor of fastback will also be received.
At the heart of the flagship will be the modular platform EMP2, like the latest Peugeot. The range of engines will consist of diesel engines BlueHDi and gasoline engines PureTech. The appearance of a hybrid modification with the E-Tense system from the DS 7 Crossback is not ruled out.
Now at the top of the DS range is the crossover DS 7 Crossback. There are six power units for the model: gasoline units with a capacity of 130, 180 and 230 hp, and 130 and 180-hp diesel engines. In addition, a 300-horsepower hybrid power plant with a 200-horsepower gasoline engine and two 80-kilowatt electric motors is available.
