The Japanese company Subaru intends to launch next year its new large crossover Ascent. The prototype of the model was quickly tested by journalists.
Observers of the edition of Motortrend got an exclusive opportunity to ride on the prototype of Subaru Ascent before the presentation, when it was still covered with camouflage film. Nevertheless, the car had full functionality.
The new oppositely turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with capacity of 2.4 liters and a return of 260-hp under the hood of the Subaru Ascent reacts very strongly to the gas pedal. The dynamics are excellent: up to 96 kilometers per hour the prototype can accelerate in just 7.3 seconds, but outside the city the engine is not so impressive.
Thanks to its low center of gravity, the Subaru Ascent does an excellent job of turning on asphalt roads: rolls are minimal, and the steering has excellent feedback and weight.
The test drive was also carried out on roads with poor coverage, and observers noted that the crossover perfectly “swallows” the pits, isolating the cabin not only from cracks in the road surface, but also from potholes.
The CVT did not cause much criticism, and its reliability is probably not to be worried, since the car is designed to pull a trailer weighing up to 2,200 kilograms.
The interior is cozy and comfortable, there is a lot of space, and in the luggage compartment, behind the third row of seats, there is still a little space left. Seats on the second row are very easy to set up, but before you sit on the third row, you need to overcome a small difference in the heights of the floor.
In the salon there is Wi-Fi, eight USB-ports, and 19 cupholders – an excellent characteristic for a large family. The multimedia system supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto formats, and the 14-channel Harman Kardon audio system is distinguished for its sound transmission.
In general, the observers stated that the Mazda CX-9 had a very strong competitor.
