The BMW 9-Series definitely won’t appear

“BMW will not build the 9th series,” the automaker’s spokesman said.

The model range of the Bavarian BMW brand is extensive. It starts with the subcompact 1-Series and ends with the new and most technologically advanced 8-Series flagship. And although the number of models each time only increases, there is still a limit to this.

According to Klaus Frohlich, head of research and development, the company has no plans to produce a car above the current 8th series – at least not now.

“I don’t think you really need the 9th series,” noted Frohlich. “In this segment of executive cars, you need three cars — the X crossover, the sedan and the emotional sports car — and we have them: the X7, 7 Series and 8 Series,” says Frohlich. “Some competitors are already reducing the number of cars in this segment, because sales are rather low.”

Fortunately, this news does not say anything against the upcoming BMW supercar. At a minimum, it is assumed that the supercar will not accept the designation of the 9th series. Rumors say that the so-called BMW supercar can arrive by 2023, having up to 700 horsepower under the hood, and will be even more powerful than the upcoming BMW M8. Theoretically, it will replace the current BMW i8 in supercar status. In turn, the i8 will remain in the role of a hybrid model.
