BWM 8-Series is considered the largest model in the line of the Bavarian concern, and the most luxurious. The second generation was presented only in the middle of last summer, and caused a relatively large interest of potential customers in the target audience.
At the time of the presentation, only two versions were announced: a diesel version with a three-liter turbo engine capable of developing up to 335 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque, and a petrol version with a 4.4-liter biturbo unit capable of developing up to 523 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The first option is a classic V-shaped six, and the second is already a representative of the V8 line.
But many will remember that the first generation was also equipped with a V12 engine, and it was also the first road car to start using a six-speed automatic with a similar engine.
But unfortunately, fans of the model and the company will not wait for the reincarnation of this version. The Vice President of the BMW Group for product management Carsten Groeber rejected the idea of using the V12 engine, which was officially announced to the foreign press.
Thus, he confirmed the absence of any prospects for the emergence of a BMW 8-Series with a V12 6.0 liter engine. A similar motor is installed on the model M760Li xDrive, and is capable of developing up to 600 horsepower and 800 nm of torque. According to Gromber, this is due to the design and problems of maintaining the weight distribution between the axles.
“The V12 is too heavy, and the new model is ideally tuned for the weight ratio between the front and rear axle. Therefore, equipment with a V8, in our opinion, is ideal, suitable for the image of a premium sports coupe. In our opinion, the V12 will be too heavy in the front, ” – said Gromber.
The CEO of BMW also mentioned that the hybrid version of the 8th series is unlikely to be released. He said that the car is perfectly tuned, so it will not be necessary to electrify.
