Tesla postponed production of compact electric crossoverMay 7, 2018
The small crossover Tesla Model Y, built on the basis of the Electric Model 3, will not be put on the conveyor before 2020
Tesla Motors will launch the serial production of the compact Model Y crossover not earlier than 2020, although previously the company representatives stated that the model would be put on the conveyor in 2019. This is with reference to the head of Tesla Elon Musk reports Auto Express.
This statement followed the information that Tesla suffered a record loss of $ 710 million in the first quarter of 2018. The losses are connected, among other things, with the failure of launching the production of the most affordable model of the American brand – Model 3. In this regard, the launch of Model Y, according to Mask, will begin no earlier than 24 months.
Mask once again confirmed that Tesla will not create a new chassis for Model Y – the crossover will be based on the Model 3 platform, which will significantly accelerate the development of the novelty. The company still intends to abandon the scheme using 12-volt batteries, which is now used on all Tesla vehicles. It is expected that this innovation will simplify the process of assembling the machine.
At the same time, some technical and stylistic solutions will be borrowed from the older Model X model. For example, a compact crossover will receive branded rear doors, which the company calls “wings of a falcon”.
According to the plan of Tesla, Americans in the next few years intend to bring to the market a new generation of Roadster supercar and Semi electric wagon. In addition, the automaker is considering the possibility of a pickup truck and minivan.
Earlier it became known who was guilty of recalling electric cars.
