India 2.0 is the new VAG project of the group, aimed at developing the model line in India, as well as increasing the share of the local market. And on the eve of Skoda was fully managed this project.
After Volkswagen Group officially transferred Skoda project management to India 2.0, the Czech manufacturer announced an investment in the Indian market of one billion euros. The first product will be developed in a new development center, which is located in Pune. The new SUV of an accessible segment should become a novelty, which will be presented only in 2020.
Localization of the modular budget platform MQB-A0 will be entrusted to this development center, which will aim at 90 percent localization in order to minimize the cost of production and development of new models. The SUV will ideally compete with Hyundai Creta and will be the first product of MQB-A0-IN for India.
At the same time, after-sales service and service will be one of the main priorities for Skoda in India. In the framework of investments, development and localization of products, Skoda plans to capture about 5% of the entire local market by 2025. Along with the SUV, Skoda will certainly build a new hatchback, for the competition Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno.
Unfortunately, there are no great details yet, since the very plan of India 2.0 was adopted a few hours ago. It is expected that the press service of the Indian division of Skoda will announce detailed plans in the near future.
However, it is already known that in the global and, in particular, the Indian market, the outdated PQ-25 platform will gradually be replaced with the new modular platform MQB. The new platform already has many modifications for premium, budget and other cars, as well as modified for specific markets. For example, in India will be presented platform MQB-A0-IN, designed for a line of compact budget cars.
Meanwhile, the competitor for the best-selling Hyundai Creta of the Volkswagen concern – Skoda Kamiq has appeared on sale, and is already available from the official dealers of the company.
