The new model of the Czech brand has received the largest digital tidy in its class, an integrated LTE modem, as well as a wide range of gasoline and diesel turbo engines.
Skoda introduced the new Scala hatchback, designed to replace the Rapid model in the Czech lineup. The public premiere of the car took place at a special event in Tel Aviv.
Externally, the novelty is similar to the concept car Vision RS, shown in October 2018 at the Paris Motor Show. The hatchback was built on a modified MQB modular chassis that underlies the new compact models of the Volkswagen concern. The overall length of the car was 4362 mm, width – 1793 mm, and height – 1471 mm. The size of the wheelbase is 2649 mm.
The company noted that Scala turned out to be close to the “older” model Octavia in terms of internal volume. For example, the free space in the knee area is 73 mm – the same as the Octavia, and the distance from the floor to the ceiling in the back row of seats is 982 mm (versus 980 mm for the Octavia). The volume of the luggage compartment is 467 liters, and with the sofa folded down it will increase to 1410 liters.
The Skoda Scala will be available with a fully digital 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit dashboard. The company claims that this is the largest virtual “tidy” among cars of the compact segment.
In addition, the hatchback was equipped with the next-generation infotainment complex with a 9.2-inch touchscreen display. Scala was the first model of the Czech brand, for which software updates or, for example, new maps of the navigator will be automatically downloaded via the cloud service.
Plus, the owner will be able to open, close and control some functions of the car using a special application on the smartphone. Finally, the hatchback will receive a built-in microchip eSIM, providing high-speed Internet access with support for LTE networks.
Motor Skoda Scala range included five power units. The base engine is a 95-horsepower gasoline three-cylinder engine with a displacement of one liter, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. In addition, an engine of a similar volume is available, issuing 115 forces. The top-end unit is a 1.5-liter 150-horsepower turbo-four.
Diesel line is represented by a 1.6-liter engine, delivering 115 hp. and 250 Nm of torque. All engines (except the base one) are capable of working with a six-speed manual or with a seven-speed robotized gearbox with two clutches.
Plus, the hatchback will be offered with a 90-strong 1.0-liter G-TEC engine, which can consume both liquefied natural gas and gasoline. Transmission – six-speed manual.
