See on car tunnel cleaning

Utility trucks use boiling water and brushes.

Thousands of cars pass through a car tunnel in any large city every day, covering its walls with a thick layer of soot and dirt. For this reason, the tunnels must be cleaned regularly and for this there is a special technique.

Videos demonstrate the technology of cleaning transport tunnels on the example of the Eisenhower Tunnel, which is located in the state of Colorado west of the city of Denver. Most utility trucks use high-pressure hot water and giant rotating brushes to clean it — something like an automatic car wash.

To get to the ceiling, the brushes are equipped with special levers and brackets, and the water tank is sometimes in the trailer. The configuration and set of brushes may vary depending on the tasks, but one thing is invariable – the Colorado Department of Transportation will never use detergents when cleaning tunnels so as not to damage the environment.
