The most expensive SUV in the world was prepared for heavy off-road, it has armchairs in the trunk
Rolls-Royce introduced the first in its history crossover, which received the name Cullinan. The novelty also became the first serial Rolls-Royce with a five-door body and the first model with four-wheel drive.
In the model range of the brand the novelty will take place between Ghost and Phantom. In Europe, Cullinan prices before taxes will amount to 266 thousand euros.
The development of the Cullinan model was announced in 2015. The car was named after the world’s largest diamond adorning the Crown of the British Empire. The British brand decided on this move due to numerous requests from customers who asked to release “Rolls-Royce in the world of SUV”. Final tests Cullinan took place in the mountains of Scotland, the Swiss Alps, in the desert in the United Arab Emirates, as well as in the United States.
The basis of Rolls-Royce Cullinan lay a new platform based on an aluminum space frame. This ultralight chassis, on which you can build cars of different sizes, will later be used on future models of the company. The crossover received a new front suspension with a double wishbone and a five-link rear suspension.
The length of Cullinan was 5341 mm, width – 2164 mm, and height – 1835 mm. The wheelbase is 3295 mm in size. The volume of the luggage compartment was 600 liters (in the four-seat modification of the Darkest Tungsten – 526 liters).
The crossover was completed with a 6.75-liter V12 engine with two turbines, which previously debuted on the Phantom model. The unit, combined with the eight-speed automatic transmission ZF, develops 571 hp. and 850 Nm of torque. The maximum speed of the car is forcibly limited to electronics of 250 km / h.
Novelty has an adaptive air suspension, a fully-controlled chassis, a fully-connectable drive system with the function of “smart” traction distribution. With the “Everywhere” button, a special off-road mode is activated – the electronics can adapt the car for driving on gravel, broken roads, wet grass, dirt, snow or sand. The maximum depth of ford crossing was 540 mm.
As for the design of the crossover, its front end is designed to resemble the “Saxon Warrior Face”, while the rear lines give a reference to the classic Rolls-Royce D-Back from the 1930s.
In the passenger compartment, the rear seats are slightly higher than the front ones to provide passengers with a better view. On the back there are special tables that can be thrown away by pressing the button. When the doors are opened, the car is automatically lowered by 40 mm for easy landing or disembarkation.
Crossover equipment includes a front-collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, a night vision system with the ability to recognize pedestrians and animals, the function of observing a series of traffic, a circular view based on four cameras and a function of monitoring “dead” zones. Plus, the car is equipped with a projection display, a Wi-Fi access point and five USB ports.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan will go on sale in 2019. The price of the novelty is not yet known, but it is known that it will cost less than Phantom. The crossover will compete with Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus.
