Roland Gumpert helped the Chinese build a supercar for alcohol

Chinese brand Aiways showed an electric supercar RG, named after the former head of Audi Motorsport Roland Gumpert. The 73-year-old engineer now works for Aiways as product director. Production of a coupe with a power plant for alcohol is planned to be installed at the plant in Germany by 2019. This is reported by Motor1.

At the heart of the supercar, named after the daughter of Gumpert Natalie (Nathalie), lies a tubular frame with MacPherson struts in front and an independent two-lever rear. The body panels of the supercar are made of carbon fiber. The machine weighs 1,600 kilograms. The mass distribution along the axes is 45:55.

The power unit of the sports car consists of four electric motors (one for each wheel) with a total capacity of 430 forces, a T-shaped traction battery and a fuel cell block with a direct supply of methanol located in the front of the machine. Methyl alcohol is heated in the system to 300-400 degrees Celsius, as a result of which hydrogen is released, from which an electrochemical generator under the hood receives electricity to power the batteries. This solution allows you to reduce fueling time and reduce fuel costs.

From zero to 100 kilometers per hour, the Aiways RG can accelerate in 2.5 seconds. The maximum speed is 300 kilometers per hour. The power reserve in the usual mode will be about 600 kilometers, in the economical – 1200

Aiways RG with a price tag of 300-500 thousand euros will become the flagship model of the brand. The first mass car will be a crossover U5 Ion, built on a modular platform MAS. It will form the basis for another 15 models – from the sedan to the pickup truck, which will be assembled at a new brand plant in China’s Ganzhao.
