The Swiss company Rinspeed has presented a reduced copy of the Snap-microSNAP modular drone. The public debut of the platform designed for express delivery services will be held at the CES Consumer Electronics Show in early 2018. In commercial operation Snap intend to launch soon.
Rinspeed microSNAP, like its older “brother” Snap, consists of a self-propelled platform and plug-in modules. They can be passenger or cargo. Together with the drone RInspeed will show a robotic station that connects and disconnects the body and the chassis while simultaneously charging the batteries of the electric vehicle.
Debuting at the beginning of this year, Rinspeed Snap was equipped with an electric power unit ZF. Its minimum power is 38 horsepower, the maximum is 69. It is powered by an electric motor from a battery pack with a capacity of 12 kilowatt-hours. Up to 100 km/h Snap can accelerate in five seconds, and drive up to 100 kilometers on a single charge.
The advantage of the modular design of the drone is that the platform can be constantly improved – its electronic components need to be replaced every few years. While recharging or replacing the platform, the capsule, lifting itself on the supports, can function as a residential unit or mobile office.
