While Volkswagen is looking for ways to reduce its dependence on Asian suppliers of lithium-ion batteries, the Swedish brand Polestar has decided to sign a contract with China’s CATL and Korean LG Chem for the supply of batteries.

The new multi-billion dollar agreement has been finalized for the next 10 years, during which two lithium-ion battery manufacturers will supply them for the Polestar 2 model, which will hit the market in 2020. At the same time, CATL and LG Chem will also supply Volvo’s parent company with batteries.

CATL and LG Chem are the two largest manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries in the world, and both have successful experience supplying these key parts to electric vehicle manufacturers around the world.

As for the Polestar 2, it should become a competitor to the Tesla Model 3 – the electric car is equipped with two electric motors with a total capacity of 402 hp. and 660 Nm, and a 78 kW battery allows you to drive about 500 kilometers on a single charge.
