So far, there is no official information about the high-performance version of the French flagship. However, thanks to our insider friends, we learned that the long-awaited Peugeot 508 R can get a powerful 350 hp engine, all-wheel drive system, as well as an additional electric motor.
The French carmaker, Peugeot, presented at the Paris Motor Show, which is now only gaining momentum in the French capital, a hybrid version of the 3008 crossover. In addition, the flagship model 508 was shown in sedan and wagon. Under the hood of the latter is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with turbocharging and 2 electric motors – the total power is about 300 horsepower.
According to rumors, the flagship 508 will be presented in a high-performance R-version.
And that’s what is known about it at the moment. Judging by the data that were at the disposal of some foreign publications, the Peugeot management has plans to create a more powerful version of the model 508, which among other things will receive a full drive. Compared with the already shown hybrid version of a mid-size sedan and station wagon, the R-version of the car will receive at least 350 hp power.
At the same time, under the hood will be the same 1.6-liter gasoline engine with turbocharging and 2 additional electric motors. It is possible that Peugeot engineers will also work on increasing the capacity of the lithium-ion battery – now it can boast a value of 13.2 kWh.
If the rumors are true, then the “charged” Peugeot 508 R needs only 4.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, and its maximum possible speed should be about 250 km/h.
As part of his recent interview, Peugeot general designer Gilles Vidal hinted strongly at the possibility of creating a high-performance model 508. He said that the novelty would be higher in power than the recently introduced plug-in hybrid 508 PHEV sedan and station wagon. The car will most likely get 20- or even 21-inch wheels. He also noted that the upcoming Peugeot 508 R will hardly be offered in the wagon version – the low sales volume of this type of car is to blame.
