Nissan refuses to develop new diesel engines

The company Nissan plans to abandon the development of new power units that run on diesel fuel. The Japanese company intends to concentrate on “green” technologies – hybrids and electric cars. This is reported with reference to its own source, the publication Nikkei Asian Review.

Earlier it became known that Nissan is going to completely stop sales of diesel cars on the European market. The given decision is caused by falling of demand for cars with engines on “heavy fuel”. Buyers refuse them in connection with the fear of imposing high taxes, as well as the forthcoming bans on the operation of diesel engines in big cities, which is partly due to the so-called “dieselgate” of the Volkswagen concern.

Until the end of 2018, Toyota will also almost completely stop selling diesel cars. Since 2019, the Japanese will leave in the European market only diesel modifications of the Land Cruiser SUV, the Hilux pickup truck, and the light commercial vehicle Proace.

It is assumed that in the future, following Nissan and Toyota, will follow other automakers. For example, recently representatives of the concern Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said that they are not going to further improve diesel units and invest in the creation of “green” cars.
