New Land Rover Defender will appear on the market in 2020
Not far from the Jaguar Land Rover research center in Geidon, test Defender prototypes of a new generation were seen. According to preliminary information, the SUV will enter the market in 2020, and its public debut will take place next year.
In an interview with Autocar, the head of marketing for JLR, Felix Braetighem, said that the first four prototypes from the pilot issue had already left for public roads. Over time, the test machines will be more. The new Defender will undergo a series of routine tests: in Sweden, cars will be tested for resistance to negative temperatures, in the California Death Valley for their ability to withstand extreme heat.
According to preliminary information, the range of engines of the new Defender will consist of gasoline and diesel units. Appearance in the line of hybrid and electric modifications is not excluded. Off-road capabilities of the model will also remain at a fairly high level. In the future, Defender is transformed into a whole family of cars, which will include short-base and long-base versions, and pick-up.
Earlier it was reported that the debut of Land Rover Defender new generation is scheduled for next year. It will happen in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the British brand. The model will be based on an aluminum platform, previously used in the construction of a new Discovery. In this case, with the machines of the previous generation, he will retain only the “emotional connection”.
