The first, about nine years ago, the extreme version of Raptor received a full-size pickup F-150, and now the same model has got a younger model – the medium sized Ranger.
The American manufacturer showed today the new Ford Ranger Raptor, focused on extreme off-road driving. The “charged” model differs from the standard modifications of the chassis, which include a reinforced frame. To replace the standard shock absorbers came amplitude-dependent from Fox Racing Shox. They have a high level of smoothness and energy intensity.
Also, part of the suspension components was replaced with new solutions with a view to increased loads. The rear springs were replaced by springs and equipped with a rear axle by the Watt mechanism, which reduces the movement of the beam relative to the machine. The track of the Ranger Raptor version is increased to 1,710 mm (+150 mm), and the width of the pickup due to the expanded wheel arches has exceeded 2 meters. The car increased its ground clearance by 60 mm and shortened the bumpers, resulting in a clearance of 283 mm and an entry angle of 32.5 degrees (previously there were 28).
On all wheels Ranger Raptor installed 332-mm ventilated brake discs with two-piston calipers in front. The tires “shod” rubber BF Goodrich dimension 285/70 R17. The engine compartment from the bottom protects a steel sheet 2.3 mm thick.
The extreme version of the Ranger was completed with a 2.0-liter turbo diesel TDCi, developing 213 hp power and 500 Nm of torque. The engine is combined with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a hard-wired all-wheel drive. The model has six driving modes, which can be switched using the button on the steering wheel, which affect the operation of the traction control system and the engine. By the way, the pickup, in addition to the traditional for off-road models of modes, has a mode Baja, oriented, just for extreme high-speed rides on rough terrain.
The new Ford Ranger Raptor is available exclusively with a full four-door cab. The length of the car is 5.4 meters. The list of novelty equipment includes: an infotainment system Sync3 with an 8-inch touch screen, a rear-view camera, climate control, sports seats with combined upholstery and a zero mark on the steering wheel, similar to race cars.
The Ford Ranger Raptor is currently available exclusively for the Asian and Australian markets. The production of the “charged” model will be established in Thailand. The North American version is expected to appear before the end of 2018, as the model returned to this market – at the beginning of the year a new generation pickup truck was introduced in Detroit. Perhaps in the United States, a small Raptor will get a gasoline engine.
The rival of the extreme Ford Ranger is the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, presented in November 2016. The manufacturer then said that the ZR2 is prepared for off-road roads better than any other pickup truck on the market.
