New Dongfeng Sedan: Peugeot 208 Relative and Future Opel CorsaApril 17, 2019
The premiere of the new Dongfeng was held at the Shanghai Motor Show. The basis of sedan lay platform, developed by a Chinese company in conjunction with the French concern PSA
In Shanghai, the Dongfeng sedan made its debut in the status of the prototype under the symbol D53, but the production version will not be much different from it. But the name of sedan probably will give more. Appearance is made based on last year’s conceptual coupe Dongfeng eπ: D53 received similar bumpers, headlights and lights. The interior is still classified.
The new model is based on the CMP (Common Modular Platform) trolley, which also forms the basis of the second generation Peugeot 208 hatch, DS 3 Crossback SUV and the next Opel Corsa (not presented yet). Recall that in the Dongfeng lineup there are models built on the platforms of the PSA group: for example, the AX4 crossover is built on the PF1 “dolly” (or rather, on its upgraded version), and the P9 is from the old Peugeot 508. The Chinese company was directly involved, which the French did not forget to mention in one of their previous releases. By the way, Dongfeng owns part of PSA shares.
Dimensions D53 not disclosed, about the engines in the company, too, was silent. Chinese media have reported that 1.0 TD and 1.5T gasoline engines are provided for the sedan, but their returns are unknown, and there are no data on the boxes. Single-platform Peugeot 208 is equipped with a 1.2 PureTech gasoline turbo-engine (75, 100 or 130 hp) and a 1.5 BlueHDi four-cylinder diesel engine (100 hp), transmissions – 5 speed manual, 6 speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission (depending on the engine). Plus, the 208th still has a fully electric version – it is possible that the D53 will also “turn green” later.
For the Dongfeng sedan, adaptive cruise control, car parking, automatic emergency braking (with pedestrian recognition), frontal collision avoidance, warning of leaving a occupied lane, traffic sign recognition are announced.
In a series of new sedan probably will be sent later this year. But it’s too early to talk about export prospects.
