On Wednesday, the Institute of the Arab World in Paris hosted a seminar-presentation of the legendary Dakar Rally Marathon, which since this year has moved from South America to Saudi Arabia.

At the seminar, which was attended by about 300 representatives of teams and the media, updates were made public in the marathon regulations.
Among them are the following:

    Entry fees for participation in Dakar will not be changed;
    Entry fees will cover all costs of participants and escort vehicles for fuel;
    The size of the health insurance will be increased to 30,000 euros against 4,500 euros in the last edition of Dakar;
    The marathon organizers will provide all possible assistance to participants who decide to get to the rally-raid start site on their own without arriving in France, which is especially important for a number of Russian teams who are ready to get to Saudi Arabia “on their own”;
    Remuneration will be increased for coaches and newcomers to the marathon. The reward for the debutant in the class of motorcycles and quad bikes will be 1000 euros, for the coach – 500 euros (last year the total payment was 500 euros). In the class of off-road cars, the newcomer will receive 3,000 euros, the coach – 2,000 euros (previously, the total amount was 4,000 euros);
    Special benefits will be introduced for female crews, which absolutely coincides with the trend of the country hosting the marathon. In the event that the pilot is a debutant of the rally-raid, the discount will be 25% of the entry fee;
    Each participant will receive one joker: the right to restart the race;
    There will be a separate test for all who drove the race completely without restart. In this competition medals and traditional cups will be awarded. In a separate Explorer for those who re-started the race, there is no official awards ceremony on the podium;
    All team members for general photography will be allowed on the podium, not just crew members;
    In the most actively developing category of SSV (ATVs) there will be two classes: T3S and T3P.

A similar presentation for teams and journalists will be held on May 23 in Warsaw with a focus on Eastern European participants, and on June 1 in Brazil for a Latin American audience.

Start of the 42nd edition of the main rally-marathon of the planet will take place on January 5 in Jeddah, the second largest city of Saudi Arabia. Participants are waiting for 12 stages and over 9000 km distance. Rest day is scheduled for January 11 in Riyadh. And the finish will be held on January 17 in Al-Kiddia.
