Supercar Chevrolet Corvette next generation will receive several options for power plants, including a 1000-horsepower hybrid, and will only be equipped with a robotic gearbox. The public debut of the new sports car will take place next spring. This is reported by Car And Driver.
The Corvette C8 will be based on an aluminum space frame. At the same time its individual elements are made of carbon fiber and magnesium alloy, and body panels made of fiberglass. To keep the price at the level of the current-generation car, the new supercar will be equipped with an upgraded 6.2-liter V8 engine. The output of the unit will increase from 466 to about 500 forces.
In addition, in the engine line of the mid-engine Corvette will be 600-hp gasoline 5.5 V8 and its twin-turbo version of 800 horsepower. A few years after the launch of the Corvette series, the C8 will receive a two-engine modification: the front wheels will spin a 200-hp electric motor, the rear wheels will have a 5.5-liter eight-cylinder engine. According to Car And Driver, the power of the hybrid system will be about 1000 horsepower.
The mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette will be equipped with only a seven-speed automatic transmission with two clutches. Also the model will receive a complex of active aerodynamics. It will include an electronically controlled spoiler and suspension with an elevator system that can change the center of aerodynamic pressure.
In April, the Corvette of the new generation showed American brand dealers. One of the participants of the event later said that the sports car definitely looks mid-engine, and the elements of the front part of the body are similar to the details of the ZR1-version of the current generation car.
