The American body championship NASCAR is preparing to switch to a new sponsorship model in the near future, according to Sportspromedia.
Since 1971, the main division’s Cup has been held with the support of the title sponsor, who over the 47 years have been Winston, Nextel, Sprint and Monster Energy.
The new model of sponsorship implies the abandonment of the title partner after 2019, when the current agreement with Monster Energy ends, and the transition to a multi-level partnership system. In this case, the championship will be called simply NASCAR Cup Series.
Currently, NASCAR has over 50 official sponsors. Predictably, under the new scheme there will be five sponsor slots. The budget of the top-level slot, which will include from four to six brands, will amount to $ 20 million per year, which is two times more than experts predicted in April, when the owners of the series only announced their plans.
Among potential top-level sponsors a few months ago along with Monster were Coca-Cola, Sunoco and Mobil 1.
