Mercedes registers a new trademark – O-ClassFebruary 11, 2019
According to the official document, the new product name can be used for cars, trucks, SUVs and buses.
Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz representatives registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office the GLS 600, GLS 680 and S 680 trade names, which are expected to be used by the Mercedes-Maybach brand. Now, in less than two months, the German manufacturer has another intriguing batch of new names that can be used in future production or conceptual models.
First discovered by AutoGuide, patent applications for trademarks held at the European Intellectual Property Office dated February 4 include O 120, O 140, O 180, and O 200.
Filled in accordance with the classification of trademarks reserved for “cars and car engines”, these names can be used for cars and SUVs, as well as pickups and minibuses.
As our friends from AutoGuide note, the German concern Daimler currently uses O names for the city bus family. The latest city bus, the Mercedes-Benz Citaro, is also known as the O530, but registering the name O with smaller numbers does not make sense for the city bus market. In addition, newly registered trademarks differ in style because they have a space separating O from numbers.
In addition, the new patent application complies with the agreement on the name of cars with a three-digit number showing the size and / or engine power. Our source suggests that Mercedes may use the new O-Class family of names for a range of small models for commercial use.
