Mercedes-Benz is exploring the possibility of installing the next-generation hybrid powerplant on the SL, which will consist of a twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine and an electric engine. The total output of the units will be more than 800 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. This is reported with reference to their own sources, reports Automobile.
It is also possible that the SL of the next generation will be withdrawn from the Mercedes-Benz line and will make part of the Mercedes-AMG range. The engine scale of the two-door will then consist of two V8 engines with a capacity of 612 and 522 horsepower, and a row-six, with a return of 435 hp.
The publication also reports that after the generation change, the SL may lose the rigid folding top, which the model is completed now, and also get two additional seats.
The list of the next-generation SL equipment, which will appear at dealers in 2021, will include, for example, air suspension, full-mounted chassis, active anti-roll bars, and 4Matic all-wheel drive system, but which is not yet known.
Automobile also noted that the 800-hp power plant will not only appear on the SL. It can also receive S-class, SUV GLS, and a four-door AMG GT4 coupe, which will compete for buyers with Porsche Panamera.
