It seems that the management of the international auto show in Detroit will have to seriously consider how to increase the attractiveness of the event, not only in the eyes of visitors, but also automakers. In foreign media there was information that one of the world leaders in the automotive industry refused to participate in the next motor show.
According to the portal Automotive News referring to an anonymous statement by one of the leaders of Mercedes-Benz, the brand is not going to participate in the next motor show, which traditionally takes place in early January. Such a decision, the statement said, was made in connection with the fact that the schedule for the presentation of new models of the Stuttgart brand does not coincide with the date of the showroom, while there are other, more effective presentation formats. Despite the fact that this year the G-Class was clearly presented, it is unlikely that the brand will be presented at the next event in 2019. However, this does not mean that Mercedes-Benz is not going to participate in the motor show in 2020, “the statement said.
If this statement is not a fake, it means that the management of the showroom should be ready for a new serious blow, because earlier from the participation in the showroom refused to Porsche, Volvo, Mazda, Jaguar Land Rover and other large and well-known brands. A holy place is never empty, and at the last motor show the Chinese brand GAC performed brightly, presenting the crossover GS8. But the presence of this automaker at the Auto Show in Detroit is quite logical, since the company is going to open its dealer centers in the United States in 2019.
As for Mercedes-Benz, most of the models are presented in spring and autumn, and only a few of them make their debut in the winter: in January 2017, the brand introduced the restyling crossover GLA, and as mentioned above, a month ago the light saw a new generation G-Class SUV. In addition, a week ago, a new Sprinter was introduced. Theoretically, Mercedes-Benz could introduce a new generation of GLA just at the next motor show in Detroit, but nothing prevents the Germans from holding a separate event, or delaying the debut for two months and bringing the novelty to Geneva.
Do not forget about the motor show in Los Angeles, to which Mercedes-Benz pays more attention.
As a result of last year, Mercedes-Benz sold 372 240 cars in the US market, which is 2,300 less than in 2016, so there is no reason to speak about any significant crisis or take-off of sales.
