What you see here is not a classic American SUV Jeep CJ7, even though it looks exactly like a car from the last century. Before us is a new version of the Indian Mahindra Thar Adventure, which is now available for sale in South Africa.

The history of the Thar model has more than 70 years thanks to the Mahindra license to manufacture the original Jeep Willys SUV in India – based on the latter, the CJ7 was built. Over the years, Mahindra has created several variants of an SUV, including an armored version for the armed forces of India.

The new Thar Adventure has a 2.5-liter turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine that produces 105 horsepower and 247 Nm of torque.

It works with a 5-speed manual gearbox with on-the-fly gear shifting, a part-time all-wheel drive system and downshift. The rear differential with mechanical locking provides even more grip if necessary.

The car received a new front bumper, which provides an angle of entry of 44 degrees. It houses rectangular LED lights at the corners and brightly colored tow points, which should be easily visible even when dirty. Additional protection of the grill is also provided. A huge tube emerges from the passenger side of the wing and rises above the roof. At the back, there is also a new bumper with a tow bar. The roof has removable mechanisms.
