In most markets, the seventh-generation ES sedan starts in September this year. At the same time, the model will be sold in Western and Central Europe for the first time – there it will appear in December, in the Old World ES will replace the rear-wheel drive “four-door” Lexus GS, rapidly losing customers.
The seventh ES is built on a new platform Global Architecture-K (part of the TNGA family, on this architecture is based and the latest Toyota Camry) with a rear multi-link suspension and reduced center of gravity. The length of the Lexus sedan increased by 65 mm compared to the previous model and reached 4,975 mm, the width is now 1,865 mm (+45 mm), height – 1,445 mm (-5 mm). The wheelbase has been increased to 2,870 mm (+50 mm compared to the previous sedan), the track has become wider by 10 mm in front and 37 mm behind. For comparison, the dimensions of the Lexus GS: 4 880/1 840/1 455 mm, the distance between the axes is 2,850 mm. As noted in the company, thanks to the expanded use of high-strength steels, the weight of the new ES is reduced, but the exact figure in Lexus was not disclosed. The weight of the sixth Lexus ES is 1,575 kg.
For the first time, the ES had a version of the F Sport: this sedan received a radiator grille with a cellular pattern, 19-inch wheels (the standard model – 17″ or 18″), and a lid on the trunk lid was installed spoiler. In addition, the ES F Sport – adaptive suspension, plus the four-door sedan driving electronics, there is a mode of Sport +, which provides, in particular, more driver settings for the engine.
Europeans will be available only hybrid Lexus ES 300h, the structure of the installation includes a new four-cylinder gasoline engine 2.5, working on the Atkinson cycle, electric motor and electromechanical variator. The nickel-metal hydride battery is located under the second row of seats. The cumulative output of the hybrid is 218 hp, the claimed fuel consumption is 4.7 l / 100 km in the mixed cycle.
In other markets, the ES 200, ES 250 and ES 350 versions with atmospheric engines will be presented – the model has not been switched to turbo-motors. The engine of the base sedan in the company was concealed. According to unofficial data, the most affordable version is equipped with the same four-cylinder two-liter engine with a power of 150 hp and a six-speed automatic transmission. Under the hood of the Lexus ES 250 there is a new 4-cylinder engine 2.5 from the Camry (the recoil is also not disclosed, on the Toyota sedan this engine produces 205 hp), the ES 350 will be available with the upgraded V6 3.5 (306 hp for the US version) . The last two options to replace the 6KPP came eight-speed automatic transmission. But the 4×4 version of the Lexus ES did not appear, the model is only available with a front-wheel drive.
The sedan is equipped with a complex of safety systems Lexus Safety System + of the new generation, it includes: adaptive cruise control, pedestrian and bicyclist detection systems (now and in the daytime), collision prevention, road signs recognition, driver fatigue control, exit warning occupied by the strip, automatic switching of headlights.
The price of the model has not yet been announced.
