The Italian supercar manufacturer is going to expand the model range in the future with a new model.
Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali said that the brand is going to bring to the market the fourth model, and it will be a car class Gran Turismo with layout of the cabin in the scheme 2 + 2.
The boss of the Italian brand did not reveal details about the platform, which will be the basis for the new model, but it’s not about the electric car. But all-wheel drive can still get a new car. As for the timing of the launch, there is no exact information on this even by Domenicali himself. But according to him, it will happen only after 2024-2025.
At the Paris Motor Show, which took place in 2014, the Italians introduced the hybrid conceptual rear-engine coupe Asterion. The car received plug-in hybrid power unit, consisting of atmospheric V10 with capacity of 5.2 liters and three electric motors. The total capacity of the unit was 910 horsepower. Perhaps, the concept of the power plant will form the basis of a new model of the GT class? However, the Asterion is still a rear-engine two-seater coupe, and GT cars, as a rule, usually have a front-engine layout.
The main competitors of the new model Lamborghini, no doubt, will be the models of Ferrari Portofino and GTC4Lusso.
The last time Lamborghini produced a serial car of the Gran Turismo class 50 years ago. It was a model 400GT, which just had a 2 + 2 layout with a front engine. Under the hood, she had an atmospheric engine with a capacity of 3.9 liters and a payback of a decent 320 horsepower.
