Jeep introduced a hybrid version of its Commander crossoverApril 17, 2019
The American novelty will be offered only for the automotive market in China. It is reported that in a purely electric mode, the car is able to drive 70 km. Very little is known about the technical characteristics of the Jeep Commander PHEV.
This American crossover is designed specifically for China, where it is available in both 5-seater and 7-seater versions (Jeep Grand Commander). The model is based on the latest generation Cherokee crossover, as well as on the concept of Yuntu, which was shown in 2017. Now both versions of this model have an electrified motor at their disposal – the official presentation of the Jeep Commander PHEV was held at the auto show in the Chinese city of Shanghai.
The new version of the model looks almost unchanged, with the exception of an additional cover on the left side panel, where the guys from Jeep installed the charging port.
Unfortunately, nothing has been said about how much energy the Jeep Commander PHEV batteries are designed for, it is only reported that in electric mode, the car will be able to travel 70 kilometers.
Representatives of the American brand do not want to share many details about the new Commander PHEV, so we do not know whether the additional equipment had a negative impact on the car’s payload and on its dynamic performance. It probably became heavier than the usual model and has almost the same interior, although the instrument cluster was probably modified to display information specific to PHEV.
While Grand Commander / Commander is currently offered only for China, we have heard reports of the possible availability of these crossovers in other countries.
Not so long ago, we wrote that BAIC would present a luxurious copy of the Jeep Wrangler in Shanghai.
