Company Hyundai continues work on a mid-engine hot-hat, the basis for which laid a series of concept cars Racing Midship. This in an interview with the publication Top Gear said the head of the sports division of Hyundai N Albert Birman.
“Yes, we are working on such a machine,” Birman confirmed. “We continue experiments on three versions of Racing Midship, we try different solutions and approaches, and we hope that one day a new model will appear in the Hyundai N line.”
The first version of the mid-engine Racing Midship (RM14) debuted in 2014. The car was built on the basis of the Veloster of the previous generation and equipped with a two-liter turbo engine Theta GDI with a capacity of 300 horsepower. A year later the second iteration of the machine with the index RM15 appeared.
Due to the use of an aluminum space frame and carbon fiber reinforced body panels, the weight of the hot-hatch has decreased by 195 kilograms. The sports car was equipped with an aluminum two-link suspension, 19-inch monoblock forged wheels, a safety cage like the WRC cars. From a place to 100 kilometers per hour, the RM15 could accelerate in 4.7 seconds.
The latest version of the experimental hatchback – RM16 N – equipped with a differential lock with electronic control, an exhaust system with active dampers and an electronically controlled rear spoiler.
