India’s largest car exporter, Hyundai, has disclosed its plans for the production of electric vehicles at its facility in Chennai. The company plans to introduce an electric SUV as one of eight new products that should appear in the country by 2020. Although the target audience and the price aspect for the electric SUV are not yet known, the company confirmed that the company will promote its electric car in 15 cities at once.
Hyundai will analyze the market reaction and state support for the development of electric vehicles in the country. Although the details of the electric SUV are not yet known, the company indicated that it will initially be imported as a fully finished car (CKD). The first sales of electric novelties are planned only in the second half of 2019.
In addition to plans to introduce eight new products between 2018 and 2020, Hyundai also plans to increase its annual production capacity in India. Over the last 20 years of its operations in the country, the company has sold about eight million cars and is now aiming at overcoming 10 milestone of 10 million in the first quarter of 2021.
