Charged hatchback Peugeot 208 GTi next generation in addition to the version with ICE will receive a fully electric modification. The model, built on the new e-CMP platform, will make its debut next spring in Geneva. This is with reference to the head of Peugeot Jean-Pierre Imparato reports Auto Express.
According to Imparato, he does not want to distinguish between cars with traditional power plants and electric cars. Therefore, for each model, an electrified option will be proposed, including for the GTi family. In Peugeot they do not intend to follow the path of Renault, in the line of which Clio and its electric variant ZOE are separately presented.
“When you buy a Peugeot, you get a special design, the latest generation of i-Cockpit interior, premium performance levels of GT-Line, GT and possibly GTi. And since I do not want cars with ICE and electric motors to differ, the customer will only have to choose the power plant”, – Imparato said.
In addition to electrifying the main lineup, Peugeot, in conjunction with the sports division, is working on creating charged hybrids and electric cars, which at the same time will meet the new requirements for emissions of harmful substances. One of such cars can become a 544-hp sports car.
Earlier it was reported that starting next year, each model of the French manufacturer will be offered with a gasoline, diesel or hybrid / electric unit. The choice of the power plant will depend on the size of the machine.
