Honda will develop an unmanned vehicle in conjunction with the Chinese SenseTime

Within the framework of the research project, the companies will conduct joint tests of SenseTime technologies for recognition of moving objects and Honda’s algorithms for monitoring the road situation and forecasting risks

Honda will develop an unmanned system together with the Chinese company SenseTime. The corresponding five-year contract has already been concluded between the parties. The partners plan to create an automated driving system, which should form the basis of the concept of mobility of the future.

Within the framework of the research project, the companies will conduct joint tests of SenseTime technologies for recognition of moving objects and Honda’s algorithms for monitoring the road situation, forecasting risks and planning further actions. The result of the work should be the technology of autonomous driving, which will make unmanned trips possible in urban conditions.

Earlier it became known that the first car of the Japanese brand, equipped with a level-4 unmanned system, should be submitted before 2025. According to Honda CEO Tahiro Nashiro, as early as 2020 the company plans to equip its cars with semi-autonomous control systems.

“We see a future in which people do not fall into accidents. It is important for us to create products that will allow people to enjoy freedom of movement. Automated vehicles have a huge potential, they can significantly increase security and expand mobility”, – the top manager explained.
