Honda introduced the European version of the new CivicSeptember 16, 2016
North America received the tenth generation Honda Civic in the past year. Now the new car is going to enter the European market and will appear before visitors at the Paris Motor Show at the end of this month. However, the automaker is not waiting for the opening, teasing the audience teaser image, decided to uncover the secrets of a model designed for the Old Continent.
The hatchback will be produced at the Honda factory in the UK, where it is exported to Europe and North America. As for the European version of the sedan, it will be assembled in Turkey, but in the UK will not be sold. Over the five-door hatchback will follow wagon Civic Tourer and a hot version of the Type R.
According to the manufacturer, the new Civic compared to the outgoing model has 52% more torsional stiffness and a 16 kg lighter. This is achieved thanks to a new “solid” platform, which uses the front and rear walls surrounding the interior of the cabin, as well as cross-shaped bracket in the front of the engine compartment and between the bases of the front and middle pillars that create additional rigidity platform.
Hatchback is 4497 mm long, 1800 mm wide and 1421 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2700 mm. This makes the car by 130 mm long, 30 mm wider and 20 mm lower than the previous generation model, with the increased wheel base of 30 mm.
Under the hood, Honda will offer two new turbocharged petrol engines: a 1.0-liter three-cylinder unit capacity of 127 hp and 1.5 liter four-cylinder unit 180 hp Both are available with six-speed manual transmission or automatic CVT. The current 118-hp 1.6-liter diesel, which currently holds 50% of sales, moving into a new model, but upgraded to improve power output and CO2 emissions. Hybrid is likely to come later. In any case, the manufacturer’s representative confirmed the British journalists that this platform can arrange a power unit, but fully electric car will not be able to do on it.
Simple and stylish interior design represents 7.0–inch touch screen, which gives access to the second generation infotainment system with integrated Connect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections. There is also an optional Garmin satellite navigation system with free map update within five years, as well as a variety of audio system configurations – with four (160W), eight (180W) and eleven speakers in the premium version.
The interior space has improved thanks to a longer wheelbase. Legroom rear seat passengers has added almost 10 cm (95 mm), and expanded space at the front and rear passenger shoulder. Capacity of the luggage remains the same – 478 liters, far more than the 360 liters of the opponent – Volkswagen Golf. The new generation Civic manufacturer refused to so-called “Magic Seats“ and returned to a more traditional configuration, the rear 60/40 seats.
The new Civic will offer a variety of security systems installed at all four levels of equipment. They include collision warning with alarm emergency braking, preventing exit from the lane, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and other functions.
Pricing has not been announced, but expect they will rise slightly compared to the current model.
