At the disposal of the publication Autoevolution were spy photos of the hatchback Mercedes-Benz A-Class of the next generation, which car is displayed almost without camouflage. The public premiere of the novelty will be held in March next year at the Geneva Motor Show.
Judging by the photos, the appearance of the hatchback will be executed in the style of the conceptual sedan Concept A, presented this spring at the Shanghai Motor Show. The new A-Class will be built on the MFA’s modular architecture with a front suspension McPherson and a multi-column rear. Using a new chassis will allow the smallest Mercedes to add a bit in size, but at the same time become easier than its predecessor.
The line of engines will include a new 1.4-liter petrol unit, developed jointly with Renault. In addition, the hatchback will be offered with the rearrangements of the former 1.6 and 2.0-liter aggregates.
Base motors will work in pairs with a six-speed manual gearbox, and for top-end versions will develop a new nine-gear “robot” with two clutches.
The top-of-the-line AMG modification will be equipped with a modernized “turbocharger”, which works with a 48-volt system that will feed a small electric motor and an electric drive turbine. The total returns of the hot-hatch units will exceed 400 horsepower.
Later Mercedes-Benz will present the A-Class sedan in the body. The premiere of such a modification should take place by the end of 2018. It is supposed that the sedan will in many respects be similar to the prototype Concept A. It was shown in April at the Shanghai Motor Show and designed to give an idea of a compact sedan, which should be a step lower than the CLA model.
