As expected, the crossover was named Harrier – this name hides the commercial embodiment of the concept Tata H5X, which debuted in February 2018. Crossover with this name is also in the Toyota lineup, but that SUV is sold only in Japan and Malaysia. In Tata, this name is interpreted as a “dominant predator” with an “unshakable instinct”, which “easily defeats every challenge”. Note, according to the dictionary, “harrier” – this is also a hunting breed of dogs.
Judging by the teasers published by the manufacturer, the serial Tata Harrier externally differs from the prototype: the narrow LED DRLs remained, but the radiator grille became larger, the exterior mirrors and rear lights still changed. By the way, Harrier will be the first model of the brand, the exterior of which is executed in a new corporate style, called Impact Design 2.0, – later Tata will present a hatchback with similar features.
Tata Harrier is built on the Land Rover Discovery Sport platform with a transverse engine (Tata owns the company Jaguar Land Rover). The dimensions of the conveyor crossover of the Indian company are not yet disclosed. The length of the concept H5X is 4 575 mm, width – 1 960 mm, height – 1 686 mm, wheelbase size is 2,740 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of Discovery Sport: 4 589/2 069/1 724 mm, the distance between the axles is 2741 mm.
On the motor scale Harrier in the company also remained silent. It is assumed that the cross will not receive engines from the British: instead of motors of the family Ingenium crossover will equip a two-liter turbodiesel Fiat Multijet II, which will have two versions – 140 or 170 hp. The drive of the new Tata SUV will be front or complete.
A fully serial version will be cut short by the end of this year, and to Indian dealers Harrier will get in the first quarter of 2019. First, buyers will be offered a five-seater version, later on the market will be seven-seater Harrier, and this option may receive a different name. It is not yet known whether Tata will sell the novelty outside of India.
