Chinese company Geely plans to engage in the production of trucks with electric motors. The corresponding agreement was signed with VIA Motors International (USA). According to the press service of the Chinese company, trucks will be sold in the markets of China, North and Latin America.
It is expected that the novelty will be available for purchase as early as next year. One of the competitors of the cargo electric car can become an environmentally friendly Tesla Semi truck, the production of which will also begin next year. Also a similar tractor is going to build a Volvo.
It is expected that the first in the series Geely will send the car of average carrying capacity with the increased power reserve. The machine will use the VIA Motors software.
“The key factor in choosing a partner for Geely was VIA Motors’ advanced technology, developed specifically to meet the performance requirements of commercial vehicles,” Geely explained.
Geely also plans to develop its unmanned vehicle control system. At the moment, work on this technology has already begun. The first tests of test samples will start soon. The exact timing of the implementation of this project is still unknown. According to preliminary data, the system can get the name GPilot and debut on serial machines in 2024. At the first stage, the tested samples of the machine will be equipped with an aluminum structure on which special devices resembling the optical rangefinders Lidar are fixed.
