Ford will refuse Edge in favor of seven-seater Kuga

The world continues to grow the segment of crossovers and SUVs, and Ford continues to think about how to cut costs, mainly focusing on the reduction of the model line.

So, in the US, the American company decided to abandon the new Focus and Fiesta, leaving only the Focus Active, in Europe C-Max minivans went under the knife, and soon the same fate was probably waiting for the mid-size crossover Edge.

It’s all about weak sales of the model – if Kuga, Ford’s European bestseller, sold over 153 thousand copies in 2018, and EcoSport – 112 thousand and sales growth of 78%, then Edge was acquired only by 9527 people, which is 41% less than a year earlier.

With this in mind, Ford plans to update the model range of SUVs in 2019. EcoSport and Kuga will receive new generations, and at the same time the latter will be released in a 7-seater version, in order to eventually replace the Edge. The company also hinted at a new crossover, and apparently, it will be a model based on the Focus.
