Ford chief executive James Hackett in an interview with Automotive News said that the company intends to “reinvent the American car”. That’s why she is forced to abandon the sedans and hatchbacks in favor of pickup trucks and SUVs.
According to Hackett, this decision does not mean that the manufacturer wants to lose customers. Ford just “intends to offer what they really need”. At the same time, the company will produce “modern models of a new generation” of any price category.
Earlier, the American manufacturer issued a message stating that by 2020 the brand’s lineup will consist of off-road cars and pick-up trucks by 90 percent. The only “cars” in it will be a Mustang coupe and a cross version of Focus called Active.
The strategic plan also provides for the phased release of hybrid modifications of the most popular models – F-150, Mustang, Explorer, Escape and Bronco – and the mass production of a new generation of electric vehicles.
