Car with a sealed nameplate noticed in Stuttgart
Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback, which was previously seen on tests only in full camouflage, was photographed almost without protection today – only the front and rear nameplates and the grille are stuck on the car.
Photos in his twitter published a resident of Stuttgart Greg Gable. According to him, a car with minimal disguise just suddenly stopped right in front of his house.
The electric hatchback golf class is created on a modular platform MEB, which the Volkswagen Group uses for electric cars. So far, the company does not disclose details about the “stuffing” of the car, but according to rumors it will be equipped with a 170-strong electric motor. There are three battery options: 48, 55 and 62 kilowatt-hours. The power reserve, depending on the modification, will vary from 330 to 550 kilometers.
Electric id length 3 will reach 4.25 meters – almost like a Golf. However, representatives of Volkswagen assured that the new product will not force it out of the model range. But the electric modification of the e-Golf will be discontinued almost immediately after the release of the new electric hatch, so as not to create competition within one brand.
The public debut of the novelty is scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show, which will be held in September this year. In addition, the manufacturer promised to start mass production by the end of this year. And by 2020, the ID line will expand with a crossover built on the same platform. The basis for it will serve as a concept car ID. Crozz.
In early May, the manufacturer announced the starting prices for the car, and also began to collect pre-orders. Thus, the basic version of the hatchback with an average battery and a power reserve of 420 kilometers will cost less than 40,000 euros. The price includes free electricity for the first year of operation: drivers will be able to recharge the car at any public charging stations that are compatible with the Volkswagen We Charge application, you can also use the Ionity network.
