Ducati was under investigation after a rival complaintMarch 11, 2019
A great start to the season-2019 in MotoGP turned out to be somewhat spoiled by the backstage struggle that began immediately after the finish of the Qatar Grand Prix, in which the two leaders Andrea Dovizioso and Mark Marquez shared 0.023 seconds.
At the end of the race, four manufacturers — Honda, Suzuki, KTM and Aprilia — immediately protested that the aerodynamic element in the area of the rear wheel of the Ducati motorcycle did not conform to the technical regulations.
MotoGP technical delegate Danny Aldridge said that there were grievances even before the start of the race, but the stewards could only initiate an investigation after receiving a formal complaint.
As a result, no violations were found. But the story did not end there, because Ducati’s competitors appealed to the FIM Court of Appeal, which is expected to deliver a final verdict in the coming days.
However, in the Italian team remain calm.
“We know that we comply with all the requirements of the technical regulations,” commented Ducati sports director Paolo Ciabatti. – On March 2, the teams received a directive, which clearly indicated that this type of deflector at the rear of the motorcycle was allowed. We would not set the prohibited element and risk punishment. ”
